Happy Birthday Oakland! (And Alice!)
5/4/2012
Today was Oakland’s 160th birthday…so happy birthday Oakland! We sure hope some of you were able to come to the celebration downtown and eat some cake! Oakland’s birthday party continues tonight during First Friday and the Art Murmur, which has grown to include Old Oakland and Jack London Square (see our previous post for more details).
Also celebrating her 160th birthday today is Alice Liddell, Lewis Carroll’s inspiration for Alice in Wonderland. The Bookmark Bookstore is celebrating Alice’s birthday with an event later this month. May 20th-26th is Alice in Wonderland week, and we will have several Alice themed items up for sale and silent auction. Our silent auction will include a set of Alice in Wonderland figurines and an elaborate Victorian-style dollhouse (see the picture below).
Here’s to hoping that 160 is a good year for Alice in Wonderland fans and all of Oakland!
