Membership Levels

Annual dues start at $25 for individuals, with special prices for full-time students and seniors.

  • Full-time Students: $15

  • Seniors (Age 65+): $15

  • Individual Level: $25

  • BookFriend Levels: $50+

  • 20% discount at The Bookmark Bookstore all year and up to 50% discounts during our semi-annual sales! 

  • Off the Shelf, the Friends’ quarterly newsletter

  • The Oakland Public Library’s Annual Report announcement

  • Members who join at the $50 or more level also receive discounts at participating Oakland bookstores: Montclair Book Tree, Pegasus Books, Spectator Books, and Walden Pond

  • We welcome tribute gifts – donations in honor of a loved one or on special occasions.

  • We will list your gift in our newsletter “Giving” column.

  • Please ask your employer about matching gifts.

Recommend a Grant from Your Donor-Advised Fund

  • You may recommend a grant to The Friends of the Oakland Public Library, tax I.D. 94-2553734, from the donor-advised fund of your choice, including Vanguard Charitable, Schwab Charitable, and Fidelity Charitable.

  • We encourage you to share your contact information so that we may thank you!

Bequests, IRA/Retirement Accounts, and Other Planned Gifts

  • To make a gift through your will or living trust, specify “The Friends of the Oakland Public Library, tax identification number 94-2553734, located in Oakland, California.”

  • Naming the Friends as a beneficiary or contingent beneficiary of your retirement plan assets may be advantageous from a tax-planning perspective.

  • The Friends of the Oakland Public Library is eligible to receive qualified charitable distributions (QCD) from an eligible Individual Retirement Account (IRA) that is owned by an individual who is age 70½ or over.

  • Please consult your tax advisor for more information.
